What role and/or responsibilities does the board have once the report has been issued? How do you know if the findings are warranted? What types of reviews can or would you do? Funding Outside the Core – Does Wholesale Funding Make Sense for You?
Sometimes directors think all borrowing is bad, however, that is not always the case, especially as the bank’s business model is predicated on borrowing habits. Understanding the role that borrowed money plays in the banking industry is critical in understanding how to make the most profit within your bank. The most interesting question is not whether or not we borrow money – we do! Rather, we should be asking what form of borrowed money will provide our shareholders the best return.

The Confidence Crisis: Managing Reputation Risk in a Volatile Media Environment
As the banking sector continues to weather the seemingly endless waves of negative publicity caused by the roiling financial markets, reputation risk for boards has increased dramatically. Will you wage a proactive campaign to address the threats posed by media, bloggers, staff (both current and former) and other influencers, or simply ignore them? Is your Board prepared with an effective communications plan that provides clear direction for various scenarios including management misconduct or removal? This session will address key planning issues and outline the resources and tools available to meet these challenges. Because the real question is not whether a crisis will hit your bank; it’s when.
