Cass Bettinger & Associates pioneered the use of Director Evaluations, a corporate governance “best practice”, exclusively for community banks. We offer two unique internet-based products.

  1. “Maximizing Board Effectiveness” asks each director to evaluate the board as a whole using an evaluation instrument containing 47 statements, each addressing a specific board responsibility. Two open-ended questions are also included. “Maximizing Board Effectiveness” provides invaluable feedback which enables the board as a whole to identify and prioritize cost-effectively specific opportunities to become measurably more effective.

  2. “Maximizing Director Effectiveness”, the approach recommended by most corporate governance experts, asks each director to compete a self-evaluation – and to then evaluate each fellow director – using an evaluation instrument containing 48 statements, each of which relates to a specific behavior that characterizes director effectiveness. Again, two open-ended questions are included. The relevant, comprehensive, quantitative, and confidential nature of the feedback is extremely valuable in enabling each director to identify and prioritize perceived strengths and developmental opportunities. In this way each director can develop and manage a professional development plan designed to optimize his or her effectiveness.

Both instruments can be customized to meet the unique needs of the individual client.

Both “Maximizing Board Effectiveness” and “Maximizing Director Effectiveness” are easily administered in accordance with the goals and priorities of each client. In step one, Cass Bettinger & Associates works directly with the client to establish the administration timetable and customize and statements and questions as desired. Step two is administration, with each director completing the evaluation(s) on line within the established timetable. In step three, the input is tabulated and the evaluations are made available electronically to the specific recipients authorized in step one.
